It is a relief that he is no longer able to be around to cause trouble. Or use my Jonathan's body so.
Jonathan had really hoped that he had managed to stop him. I think he sees it as a personal facing he did not succeed.
Also, no, he had a perfectly normal boyhood love of all things amphibian.
